1. I'm shocked. I mean, Really???? Does this actually happen where you are on time with your first baby and late with your second?
2. I'm glad that I'm a good hostess, but some people overstay their welcome.
3. Or maybe I'm not a good hostess. Maybe something is wrong with me and the baby isn't coming because my body isn't properly aligned or something.
4. Um . . .I am not quite sure what to do with this time. I don't have anything really scheduled at the moment because I planned for the baby to be here. There is always plenty to do though - so I'm getting stuff done.
5. I'm a little embarrassed. I already got a sub (thank you Sarah B.) for my primary class for today and next week - and the baby hasn't come. Thankfully, Sarah just told me what I should do - that she'd teach my class whether the baby came or not and I should just rest while I could.
6. I'm glad she did. I'm not one to shy away from attention but at some point, you just don't want to deal with people asking you when the baby is coming (at least not all within a three hour church time period). I don't know why . . . maybe you just are tired of looking like the 8th wonder of the world, or maybe it is just because you are planning on a time and it doesn't work the way you planned.
7. On the other hand . . . I'm still not ready for him to come. Still don't feel great about any name, still scared about what I'm going to experience, and still don't know how good of a mom I'll be to two children, one of which will be a boy!!! Lots of unknowns which I'm sure will melt away when I'm actually there. But I can't help but be a little worried.
Okay, now that I have gotten that out of the way . . .
Writing down these feelings makes me realize that - yes, I do have these feelings - they are real - irrational or not, but that everything will be okay, to have faith - not fear, and also makes me feel grateful. I am grateful that I feel as good as I do. I am grateful because I have prayed that the baby would come when both my doula and doctor were available - which was a problem at times in the last two weeks, and now they both will be. I am grateful I have more time to mentally and physically prepare. I'm grateful my body is still fine to be pregnant and not be induced. Also, Jeff's Mom had major surgery on Thursday (I haven't really mentioned this yet because it all is so new and has happened very fast. But Ellen was diagnosed with breast cancer a few weeks ago and so we've been adjusting to that.) But I'm grateful that we didn't have the stress of bringing a new baby into the world on the same day that we were worried about how Ellen would be doing in surgery. My Mom reminded me that . . . was it Henry B. Eyring? . . . said that often the tender mercies of the Lord are shown through the timing of things. And I feel that that is the case here. He is aware of my situation and knows the best timing for the baby to come.
As I write this post, I realize that overall, I haven't been too anxious or upset about the fact that the baby hasn't come. Yes, I have had those thoughts - and yes I've had a few moments where I've pouted to Jeff and shed a few tears, but most of the time, my heart has been happy and at peace. This week Mary and I got to do lots of fun things and spend good time together - going to the park, going to ballet in the park on Friday night, and going on a walk/hike with our friends yesterday. So all that has been good and I cherish many moments from this past week together.
Mary and me watching ballet at the park. She watched transfixed on my lap almost the entire hour and a half.
