Ever wonder . . .

Do you ever wonder about random things?

For example . . .
When trying to describe Catherine's color scheme to people, I say that it is monocromatic oranges. Basically that means a range of different shades of orange from true orange to yellowy orange to peachy orange.

But I have often wondered, "why does the color peach not actually look like a real peach?" When you say that something is peachy in color, I think we all think of a light orangy almost pinkish tone. But a REAL peach is almost red on the outside and a yellowy orange on the inside. Know what I mean?

Anyway, here is kind of
an example of what I mean by monocromatic orange . . .

Some photos to go with the last post

Here are some photos to go with the last post . . . just some of what we've been doing.

Met up with one of my bestest friends, Heather last week.
(BTW, I know I probably should wear makeup all the time. But I just don't. It just doesn't seem necessary when I'm just going to the grocery store or park or library.)

Heather's son, Aidyn

All her chilluns

At niece, Emma's birthday celebration on Friday . . .

Wish I had a good one of Mary standing up in this outfit. It is SO adorable on her!

The birthday girl, Emma with big sister - working girl, Hannah

Hello, Young Lovers . . .
(Oh, they can hardly contain themselves they are so happy and in love. Kind of makes me sick. ; ) My other sisters do PDA too. I'm not really a fan of it, I have to say. Maybe I'd feel differently though if I was the one participating . . . uh that sounded weird. I mean participating with my OWN spouse) : ).

Aunt Jennifer is so fun! Slap me five!!!

Grandpa Howard (he can be my grandpa right?) and nephew Joe.

The fountains at C.G. Park . . .

Okay. I'll admit it. I'm a pushover. Not when something is important for me to say no to. But something like this . . . leaving the library, on our way home . . . we stop at the park . . .how can I really say no to the fountains on such a hot summer day? It makes her so happy, I choose to not pick a battle over this one.

Hangin' out with Annabel at her pool . . .

Mary saw someone's towel on a lawn chair and saw other people lying on lawnchairs. She decided she wanted to sunbathe too. It was pretty cute. : )

Orchestra Concert in the park . . .

We discovered a great new park, Sweetwater Park. The Lone Tree Symphony Orchestra was playing there that night. I have a couple friends who play with them (and keep letting me know when they need cellists incase Jeff ever decides to play again ; )).

Mary was mesmerized by the music.

And she was dancing to it too of course. I couldn't get a really good photo of her dancing though.

Let's see . . . was it worth it to drag myself out on a Saturday night, alone with baby after people kinda flaked on me - without my hubby - (he was preparing for Sunday talk, plus he went to family outings Friday and Sunday nights) to enjoy this evening of music? Hmm . . . let me think . . .

Beautiful evening? Check. Good music? Check. Oklahoma! medley? Check! Check! Stars and Stripes Forever? Check! Check! Check! Real life canons? Check. Setting sun? Check. Watching Mary enjoy the music, dancing, other kids, dogs, etc. Check! Check! Check!

Yes, it was definitely worth it! Summer is my favorite season and it will be gone before you know it.

What We've Been Up To

So I realize I haven't been writing too many interesting posts lately. One reason is that something weird happened with my blog a month or so ago and I've had difficulty with it ever since. I've also heard that people may be having problems making comments . . .

I have no idea what is going on. Do any of you? If so, can you email me? anniesullins@yahoo.com

Anyway, another reason is that we've just been busy doing lots of summer activities . . . park days, hanging with friends, going to the pool . . . I just am not sure how much of it to post.

Another thing that has taken much of my free time (which there isn't a lot of) is both of the weddings I'm in this summer; my sister, Catherine's - in which I agreed to help her with the attire of the wedding - and my friend, Annabel's. Between both of them, I've been meeting with florists, going to showers, planning a shower, shopping, writing emails, etc. etc. etc. But I'm honored to be a part of both of these weddings and look forward to both of them in August.

We have also been potty training . . . more on that later. We've actually been potty training since Mary was about 4 months old. I am experimenting with an alternative method - Elimination Communication or Infant potty Training. I will go into more detail later because there is way too much to report to add it to this post.

Jeff gave a talk today in church about how we can be like the pioneers (those early saints who gave everything they had to walk thousands of miles across our country to worship freely). He did a good job, and I was proud of him.

My sister Beckie and her family came into town this weekend, so we will be hanging out with them a lot in the next few weeks.

That's about it!

Thanks for reading (if anyone even does anymore : ( - my blog isn't showing any of my followers right now)!

Sunny Memories

Here are some pics of our day of fun in the sun with my sister Jennifer and two of her kids, Emma and Joe. Mary was again, a little fish. She loves the water. This time though, she didn't want to hold on to me or anyone else. Miss Independent I guess. And lately she'll say if I try to help with something and she doesn't ask for it, "Self". Meaning, "I want to do it by myself thanks!" or, "Move over Momma. I'm spreadin' my wings."

And here are a couple of other pics from this past week. . .

Mary eating cherries. She gets a kick out of the pit part. She often will bite into one just to get the pit.

Mary went down the stairs last week without holding on at all! That seems big to me.

Summer Fun Pics

Here are some pics from the last week or two. I sure do love summer and all the fun that goes with it!

Been playing with the boys next door lots. I sure wouldn't mind if Mary could marry one of them someday.

They each take turns wanting to push Mary. And Mary was loving it.

Aren't they the cutest boys ever?

The Rockies Game

Mary and Me riding the light rail downtown to meet up with Daddy.

Mary did really well.

Even though we had a rough start to the evening (my butt literally got pinched in a bleacher and started bleeding), we had a good time.

Having fun with Daddy

The Fourth of July

Mary and I started the day at a ward breakfast in the park. I knew there'd be fountains, so I put her swimsuit on under her clothes. Didn't take Mary long to go straight to the water.

Later - after Mary's nap - Mary and I went to a neighborhood party. It was fun to get to know the neighbors - especially some with kids just Mary's age! After that it was time for the fireworks!

Mary says "fag" for flag. (Sorry she happens to be at that age where many of her words sound like bad words.) Anyway, Mary has two books - one of America the Beautiful and one of The Star Spangled Banner that she asks me to sing to her all the time. They have lots of Americana pictures in them. So she knows what a flag is. She also sees our neighbors flag and points to it and says "fag" all the time.

We got to the park for fireworks and a band was playing. Mary started dancing and was being cute and entertaining to people.

A nice boy sitting nearby gave Mary two of his light up bracelets. She was thrilled of course. Don't you love it when there is a nice community spirit?

Lovin' the bracelets. Jeff commented that she missed half of the fireworks because she just wanted to play with the bracelets. But she did love the fireworks too.

I just love those eyes and lips! Okay, AND pigtails. : )

Mary choosing what she wants to wear. Don't you love it?

Mary's still at that adorable age where she wants to be like her Momma. I'll take it!

And I just had to show you her cute bloomers she wore today. Stinkin' cute.

My Best Friend

I wonder if I'm even allowed to say it . . . So many people it seems give their "best friend" title to their husbands. And if you are one of these people, I think that is truly WONDERFUL.

Jeff is my partner in life and someone whose connection with runs deeper than it does with a best friend. But I cannot give him that title. I'm sorry, but we just are too opposite in our natures to be best friends.

I know that he and all of you will understand. When it comes to my best friend, there is no question. It is, without a doubt, my big sister, Jennifer.

I don't know what I'd do without her. She is the most understanding, forgiving person I know. I never feel judged by her. She is trustworthy. And we have a connection that has been forged by similar understandings and life circumstances.

I often feel that she does not get enough praise or recognition from me. I don't think I could ever repay her for the selfless friend she has been. I know she knows these things, but I don't say them enough.

Last week, I was sick - throwing up in the middle of the night between Monday and Tuesday. It wiped me out for the entire next day. I was sure grateful that Jeff stayed home to take care of Mary and me. Wednesday, I was up and moving again but still pretty weak. Thursday morning, after agreeing to take Jennifer to Costco, I started feeling a little sick again. I guess it just took awhile to completely recover. So anyway, Jennifer and I had plans. I was starting to feel bad again and Mary had fallen asleep earlier than usual for her nap because we had been to the Rockies game the night before. Well, Jennifer was completely flexible and understanding and she drove over anyway so we could talk and so she could bring me something to eat. It was just what I needed. Then she had me rest a bit while she watched a movie and waited for Mary to wake up. When the movie was over, both Mary and me were ready to go.

I just appreciated her so much that day. Not a word of complaint. She seemed happy to be able to be there for me. I wished all my friends were this understanding and helpful.

Then again on Friday night, we went to a movie together and she was an understanding ear to me again.

Thanks for letting me share these feelings. I just really felt it important to acknowledge for posterity's sake that Jennifer has been a lifeline for me and I hope too, that this will let Jennifer know how much she means to me.
