We've been busy the last month or so! Much of our time has been spent getting a space ready for the baby. We are really outgrowing our house and it isn't a great layout for a growing family. But we don't feel quite ready to tackle a move at this point.
Some people are fine with just having the baby in their own room. But when Mary was a baby, Jeff and I took turns sleeping in her room for the first two weeks - and it just wasn't restful for me at all. I woke up at ev
ery little baby noise. It was much better to sleep in my own bed without the baby in total ear shot.
Plus, there was something for me to the idea that we needed to make space for a new baby in our lives. And making a physical space ready, prepares your mind and heart I think.
So I felt strongly that we needed to change the office/craft room into a room for this baby. We were able to clear out most of the stuff, but a few things stayed - a bookcase, Jeff uses the closet still b/c I use the entire closet in our master bedroom, and because the room has a built in desk, we are using it as such for a place to put our printer, my lap top, and a few other office things. But we did get rid of a lot of stuff and rearranged and reorganized a lot!
Honestly, it was a major pain in the butt - for several reasons. Mostly, our contractor took 6 days to do the job - which wasn't an easy one granted - but he told us it would only take 3. Being hugely pregnant with stuff out of place - in our bedroom, living room, hallway - was enough to almost push me to insanity. But somehow I just lived in disaster for over a week. Ugh!!! Makes me sick just writing about it. : ) When you are nesting and you can't really do your reorganizing until the contractor gets his work done - you are not a happy camper. Plus! - has it been hot this spring or what?! I should've just turned on the AC in March, but I stupidly waited until the end of April because it seems wrong to turn it on that early.
Anyway, we survived. Poor Jeff had to calm me down a few times. . .
So the doggie wallpaper came down, the walls were retextured, and painted. We ended up painting the ceiling after the contractor left. Long story too boring really to get into. But it looks and feels much better now.
I'm no decorator and it still needs some tweaking - Mary's old nightstand repainted, furniture positioning - but, I think a baby could be in there now.
BEFORE pics! The furniture was arranged a little differently than this picture, but you have an awesome look here at the doggie wallpaper that came with the house when we moved in. When we do move, I'm certain that this being gone will help us out.
This is just a small taste of all the scrapbooking stuff I had to reorganize. I was surprised how much stuff I have.
Jeff finishing up the paint job. He did a lot of work with this project!
Mary has enjoyed getting the new room ready. Sometimes I let her get in the baby crib and she loves that. She didn't get upset at all when we took the rocker out of her room.
And here is a current picture of her room, with the rocker out and her table in.
Here you can see why I need to rearrange the furniture a bit still. I just don't really have enough wall with the built in desk (where Jeff is sitting) and the bookcase on the other side. But I really feel the need to have my comfy recliner in there for those middle of the night feedings. So hopefully I can figure out a better set up. Suggestions?
The bedding! It's even cuter in person. I should mention that Jeff's parents are responsible for most of the nursery - their gift to us for this baby. Thanks C and E!!!
Dresser and changing table
And Jeff even gave up part of the closet for the little guy.
Anyway, I am so happy that the nursery is essentially done. I still have a bit of reorganizing left, but we are ready to bring this baby home!
